A Gift From My Hard Drive: A New Series
Win $6,000 with John Chow and XR.com
John Chow is holding a new contest to give away $6,000 in CASH! $5,000 would go to the charity of my choice and $1,000 will go to me to spend however you want. If I win, I would give the $5K to the Toronto Humane Society and I would put the $1,000 into paying off debt that I’ve incurred through this years financial crisis.
I chose to donate to the Toronto Humane Society because they are close to home, and it is my belief that no innocent animal deserves to live a crappy life. It is our responsibility as pet owners to care for our pets to the best of our abilities, and if we can’t, we should find them a loving owner that can, NOT just drop them off at the humane society.
The contest is being sponsored by XR.com. XR.com is a tiny url service that will take a link address that you provide to them, and condense it into an easy to read URL of 3-50 characters in length. This is especially useful if you’re trying to add a quick link to a blog or forum post, as some links such as those to ebay, can be multiple lines long! No one wants to see that!! The tiny url service provided by XR.com is free, and the site and interface is very straight forward and easy to use. Sign up for an account and check it out!

Toronto Humane Society? I guess it is not too big a leap to say you are from Toronto, which John Chow had a DotComPho meet-up in Toronto some months ago. Hope you made it. Am jealous because I am from Oklahoma and the likelihood of John Chow coming here is slight, much less a DotComPho meet-up.
Actually I wasn’t a reader of his site back that far!! I had no idea that he made the trek over this way!!! Maybe he’ll make a repeat appearance in the future!!
BTW- congrats on top commentator at both Chow and Shoemoney. No easy feat, and the only way to get there is to earn it.
Thanks!! I will try to explore every free avenue possible before paid adverts!
i learned about this contest from JohnChow.com
seems like you are taking part in the contest.. well, personally, I prefer the contest is an awesome one. To donate $5000 is really awesone. but, yet seems like its really a good deal ;p
Agreed!! He’s definitely got some good ideas for marketing!
The contest is very interesting but i am not gonna participate in it. Some many bloggers will participate that the hope of winning is very low. However John is a very clever marketer.
Agreed - much better chances with my contest for sure!!
Haha your right
BTW XR.com is using a very clever marketing strategy by running tiny url as the text for their hyperlink. Tiny url is their direct competition.
Good catch, I did not notice the tiny url anchor text. Hmmm, that gives me some ideas…
Nice contest!!! I am going to participate in the contest to get this HUGE amount- $1000. If I win I will buy a banner in your blog for the price you’ll quote because you only shown this contest to me.Thanks for sharing!!!
