USPS Buys $1.2 Million Home To Relocate Employee

So I says to Mable I says, I’m gonna work for the post office so I can finally afford that sweet 1.2 million dollar home I’ve always wanted!

Wait… what?

That’s exactly what I said when I read this article: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/03/05/postal.service.relocation/index.html

So let me get this straight, not only did the guy already OWN a 1.2 million dollar home, but the post office bought it so he could move?  BOY am I in the wrong career!!

So I figured, this guy must be some kinda high up executive or something.  Makes sense right? Like how else can the guy afford this CASTLE.

NOPE - guys the former postmaster in Lexington, South Carolina.  How… the…. BLEEEP!!!

Hopson is now the customer service manager for the USPS branch in Carrollton, Texas.  That’s a quote right from the article.  So the guy isn’t even a high up.

DOES THE USPS REALLY PAY THAT WELL?? Does anyone know how this is possible?? I certainly don’t understand it in the slightest.

Anyways, for more information, check out the article.  Apparently the USPS is lowering their max home buyback value to $1 million.  ONLY 1 million now…. Wow.

I would love to hear you guys thoughts on the situation.  I’m filling out my application form right now!

What?!!?? What is the USPS buying houses for? Shouldn’t they be concentrating on their core competencies? This is FRAUD! Total outright fraud, but why?? Why are they doing this to us??? Is someone going to be imprisoned for it? Most Americans think the USPS is a wholly federal agency and their postage costs are the actual cost incurred. Boy will they be surprised that the USPS is going around buying houses behind their backs (it is a betrayal of the public trust) and then the USPS is going to Congress and asking for American taxpayers money. And, they keep talking about raising the cost of postage stamps. I’ve always defended their semi-anunual pay hikes, because I thought they were absolutely necessary otherwise they wouldn’t be asking for them. Now I feel cheated and lied to. Now. they’re talking about raising the prices yet again. Fool me once, shame on you…fool me twice, shame on me. I feel like I’ve been lied to. And, they conveniently list the dollar amount that they’ve lost on EACH individual house, because had they announced the sum amount, most people would be horrified. Nice try USPS, it’s 110 Million dollars when you add it all up. That’s $110 Million that we all thought was going to postal-related stuff! I think they are in the wrong line of business…buying homes…why don’t they do just postal-related stuff?

PO never asked for bailout. Po never recieves tax dollars. PO made a profit last year but the treasury dept took 5.5 bill and used it for other things. And by the way no one has to use the PO. use fedex or UPS. their CEOs get 10 mill+ a year. find out where their 50bucks a package goes

They come to Congress every year for a subsidy and do you think that PO builds the buildings out of its own money?

What the hell? Keep jacking up the price of a stamp, and consider cutting back postal delivery to 5 days a week because of the economic situation. BUT…………if you need to relocate, we’ll spend over a million bucks to buy your home and relocate you. No big deal if we loose $50,000 in the process. Not even the postal service can be trusted.

Dude nobody can be trusted. Tell me can you trust the American Government? I am certain you can’t.

Tempest in a teapot.

The USPS is NOT buying million-dollar homes.

CNN really thought they had something here.

They don’t.

The USPS recently changed its buy-back policy in the wake of the weak real estate market — not because some CNN reporter is searching in vain for a Pulitzer.

And as for Sen. Grassley’s most recent grandstanding; gee, what a shock — more phony outrage from a career politician.

How can a postmaster buy a house like this?
See the following link for pay table.

According to that pdf, max pay is $117,657. That is NOT enough of an income for a million dollar home. You wouldn’t qualify for a mortgage, let alone be able to make payments. Maybe the post office should lower their max to houses that their employees can afford?!?!?! The post office is not subsidized, but corporate stupidity and greed is the reason we have 8% unemployment right now.

There is something fishy here, the assessments for this property are only up through 2007 and they only list vacant land owned by an LLC. Is this guy running a scam?
