The Importance of Posting on Other Blogs
Recently, I’ve been very involved in the development of OnePoke.com, which has led me to decrease my posting frequency to one a day, as well as decrease my overall posting on other blogs as well.
I used to be the top commentator on both John Chow’s and Shoemoney’s blogs, and I definitely noticed the traffic that I picked up from those sites. Since I have stopped being the top poster on said sites, I have noticed a direct drop in my blog traffic!!
When I logged into my google analytics, I was actually shocked to see that my traffic was about 2/3 of what it was prior to my decline in activity! I couldn’t believe it.
This truly proves the old saying in the blogosphere that posting on other peoples blogs really WILL drive traffic to yours. Truly amazing. I know that I will certainly begin increasing my posting frequency on these other blogs once the time allows for it, as who knows what traffic I might have been missing out on.
So for all of you other bloggers, that AREN’T swamped with work like I am, I STRONGLY advise that you maintain your posting frequency on your favourite blogs, ESPECIALLY if they are high traffic ones. This is really a free traffic source, and all it takes is for a person to subscribe here and there for you to gain a strong, long term reader base, as well as a continually increasing amount of traffic.
I’m sure that as soon as I start posting again, my traffic will climb up to the previous levels. That IS how it works right? In the mean time, it was a very eye opening experience.

Well Taris this is so true. Another thing i would like to add is that posting on other blogs also helps in SEO and better PR.
Thats true I guess back links right??
Yup back links, which is something which Google sees when giving you a PR.
I’ve know this for quite awhile now and I reckon I spend more time commenting on other peoples blogs than I do posting on my own, which is cool because I also learn so much from reading their blogs. I reckon a majority of my posts are centered around commenting, how important it is and how to improve the quality of your comments.
I wish someone had told ME that lol
I rarely venture out to other blogs except for a few that I have subscribed to…but recently been working a lot more son on ‘breaks’ been clicking around :p
How do you get the majority of your traffic??
Mostly via searchings about 90 or so per day the other 50% or so via people talking about some tutorials etc on forums or from other backlinks.
Guess what, I’m here because I followed your link from the I’m Just Sharing blog. So, you are spot on regarding traffic as I’m a case in point. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for your top commenter link on another blog.
I try to make several comments a day on different blogs for the inbound links but also for the learning. I cannot tell you how much I learn from hopping around commenting on folk’s blogs. I’ll subscribe to a blogger’s feed (as I will yours) and pay attention to the new things that come into my inbox.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks and im glad you found me - welcome to my blog!! I’m actually taking my realestate license right now - how long have you been in the biz??
Several years now. You are making a good decision as most real estate agents do not have a clue as to the volume of traffic that can be generated from a properly optimized website.
Great news!! I noticed you don’t have a blog on your site! or am I missing something?
Btw, ya need an option to subscribe by email. It’s easy with Feedburner. I’m not a big rss reader type. I’m just sayin as I went to subscribe and I didn’t see any email option.
What’s the benefit of email versus actual RSS?? doesn’t it clutter up your inbox??
No, it doesn’t actually. A subscribed RSS feed via email is easier (at leas to me) than having to view a reader (and extra step).
In any event, you (and me)) should offer both options.
I agree that we should offer both RSS and email to our readers. You’ll be surprised that many are still not tech-savvy enough to know what RSS is.

Blogging can be a non-zero sum game. Commenting helps both parties in some way. I’ve learned a lot about blogging itself from reading posts and commenting on them. It’s a nice way to network too.
As is twitter, if you haven’t already signed up!!
Twitter is the best tool around and guess what? Its not even monetized, LOL.
Honestly - I wonder how they can stay afloat as that site must cost some decent money to maintain!!
Agreed about twitter.
Just got started last week. Better than I expected.
I’m @EWanderlust
This is nice observation. I need to also make sure that i get to the top in most happening blogs.
Definitely!! It’s well worth it!!
Lots of good points Taris.
The only problem I have with commenting is it takes up a lot of time. It has, however given me about 4,000 backlinks in about 3 months so it is worth it.
Its not only back links, people do tend to check out regular commentators blogs.
I agree - thats why I fell off as well
It took me a while to realize that your posting on other blogs meant blog commenting. I used to spend 80% of my time on commenting alone to drive traffic to site and I can attest it works… Though I’m slowing down right now due to other priorities.
You’re right maybe I should have thought that one through a bit more hehehe
No worry, dude. We just say thing differently at times.
Yan you seem to have become a wee bit busy of late. You have even stopped posting much on your blog. There was some competition on your blog and the results have not come yet or have i missed it, LOL.
Yup, you’ve missed it, pal. The winners had been announced 10 days ago.

Ironically, I came here from a comment you left on another blog. Interesting notion. I comment on blogs to add an idea and maybe make a new friend.
Thanks for visiting my blog I subscribed to yours as well - Since you’re into dogs from the look of it, check out my most recent post - its sure to put a smile on your face!
Thats true, but its all depends on the site traffic and topics you are commenting but i personally prefer to create my own world right here in my blog rather than visiting other people blog often
- My 2 cents
I think may work for some new blogs or blogs in the same niches, but just general commenting is not really worth it from a traffic perspective.
