Sushi On Bloor: A Review

pc130021Hey guys!! This is my very first review!! Not a paid review, just a review that I’m doing because I love the restaurant. So anyway, the restaurant is called Sushi on Bloor, and as I’m sure you guessed, it is a sushi restaurant!

Their menu consists of all the regular stuff you’d expect to see at a sushi restaurant, and the quality is off the charts!!! They say that if you find a restaurant, that instead of using the fake plastic grass looking thing as garnish, they use the real thing (which apparently comes from Japan) that you’ve found yourself a winner.

Sushi on Bloor is one such restaurant!! They actually use half and half, so I don’t know what you want to take away from that, but the fact that it is present at all works for me!! Every person gets free tea, and a bowl of miso soup to start.

This time around, I ordered my usual: Sashimi Bronze, which includes salmon, tuna, snapper and surf clam sashimi, spicy salmon roll, and rainbow roll.

My girlfriend ordered smoked salmon roll, and soft shell crab as an appetizer. I forgot to take pictures of the sashimi, because I was just too hungry/preoccupied with my amazing food that I forgot, and there are only 4 pieces of spicy salmon roll because by the time I remembered to take pictures, I had already started eating lol.

Anyway - here are the pictures, click on them for a larger version - my apologies for the grany-ness, as I opted for not using the flash just because I hate the washed out look. Maybe I should have used it in the end after all :).

I would like to add that you can dine at sushi on bloor for a more than reasonable price. I know my smoked salmon roll is 6 or 7 bucks. The soft shell crab was $8. The portions are more than you could ever ask for. Also, besides the tea and soup, each diner recieves red bean, green tea, or mango ice cream for dessert.

So for under $10 pone get tea, soup, entree, and desert. That is a bargain.

Where do I look for “Sushi on Bloor”? In what city would I keep this in mind? As you can imagine, in Oklahoma we don’t trust too many Sushi places. There are the daring who frequent them, but considering we sit right in the middle of the US, oceanic seafood is suspect.

Although in Honolulu, with all the fresh Seafood, I was taken aback with Spam musubi.

John Chow had a post on how to do your own meet-up. Since there was a Toronto PhoDotCom, there would be enough bloggers to do this regularly there.

Even now the softshell crab is looking good. Maybe that is why I don’t visit the food channel web site very often.

Reminds me of Mr. Bean. He went to eat sea food in france and they way he was eating was outright hilarious. He even went to the extent of putting the left overs in a ladys purse.

You can bet the first I am going to do when I can get out of this snow is get sushi, and when I get rich I will have a private sushi chef living at my house, that is priority #1

I did a lot more sushi when Iron Chef (Japanese version) was still on the Food Channel. Now that don’t show it, don’t get the craving to be adventurous with seafood.

Haha, its quite funny you get craving for food when you see it on TV. I really don’t even though i see alot of cooking programs on TV.

Love Kurosawi films and when I watch Seven Samaurai get a craving for rice. So, it has been a historical trigger for me.
