Second Chances and The Big Picture
I’ve often heard the saying regarding the fact that sometimes we don’t get a second chance at things, and that you should always make the most of your first chance.
By all means, this is the truth, but at the end of the day if you’re faced with GIVING someone a second chance, it is often quite a dilemma as to whether or not they deserve it. Another popular saying is that everyone deserves a second chance, and although it would be nice, it is not always the case.
I am personally a big fan of the three strikes principle - three strikes and you’re out! Seems simple enough, but then you can sometimes find yourself in a situation where you hit the third strike and the “you’re out” never happens. This is when a strong will really comes in handy, but that’s another topic entirely.
What I’m really trying to get at is the fact that in most cases, you should really ask yourself why SHOULDN’T someone be given a second chance? After all, if you believe in seeing the good in people, and their ability to learn from their mistakes, then it would only seem natural to do this.
Some situations will arise where a second chance is simply not an option, due to whatever unfortunate situation might prevail over the desire to see the best in someone. You have to be able to distinguish these situations from a more normal scenario, because although we might like to, if someone simply doesn’t deserve a second chance - then they don’t deserve it!!
All in all, I believe that giving someone this courtesy shows humility and understanding. Sometimes even just being considered for a second chance will make someone want to be a better person.
Really you should always ask yourself “does it really matter,” and use the answer to that question to formulate your second chance plan. Either way, if someone really and truly wants to fix the situation, and make things right - they probably do deserve a second chance, and I think it is important for people to realize that, as often many are too quick to dismiss a second chance without putting enough thought into the process from the get go.

Good post Taris. I think you should give people atleast 3 chances. But honestly who are we to give chances. Its in Gods hands, not ours.
True say - I always say whatever’s meant to be will happen in the end!!
Good post. I think it’s all dependent on the person/history as to whether to give someone more than one chance. We’ve all probably been burned a few times by giving someone more chances than we should have.
I know exactly what you mean - but it always comes down to wanting to believe the best in people right??
