New Paint That Repairs Itself
I was browsing another blog that I like to frequent, cars.blogs.ca, and came across this interesting article regarding paint that actually repairs itself! This sounds too much like James Bond spy technology, so naturally I had to read more. Apparently Nissan has developed a technology that has the ability to repair minor scratches in the paint.
This technology is based on a clearcoat that contains an elastic resin. Over time, the paint will naturally flow back into its original shape. If your car gets keyed, you’re still out of luck, but for every day abbrasions, fear no more! Your paint will look pristine day after day. The lifespan of this paint is said to be about 3 years from the application of the clearcoat.
Currently, this paint is only available in the Japanese market on the X-trail SUV, but it is set to be released here in North America on the Infiniti EX35 later this year at the end of December.
Read more about this amazing new technology in the original post at cars.blogs.ca.

This is amazing and would have other applications I am sure. Of course it’s the Japanese auto industry to bring this about. With the US auto industry on death’s door, it’s time for them bring whatever they have in the labs out (if anything).
