New Cell Phone Laws in Ontario
Recently, the government passed new legislation regarding the banning of using any types of mobile devices while driving, including but not limited to cell phones, GPS, and MP3 players. As most of us know, cell phones have become part of the main stream lifestyle of a significant portion of the population, and for some of these people, this will be a hard habit to kick. At first, this might seem like an annoyance, or an encroachment of our rights and freedoms, but there is a flip side to this.
Driving while talking on a cell phone takes your attention away from the task at hand: driving safely. Studies have proven that accidents are far more likely to happen while driving while talking on a cell phone, than when your attention is focused on the road ahead. This may seem obvious to some, but others feel that they are perfectly capable of multi-tasking. Regardless of what these people think, the facts don’t lie, and I personally think its a great idea.
The use of hands free devices such as headsets will still be permitted, as it seems that the majority of the time, accidents result from people texting or fumbling with their phones. When the law will be officially enforced is not yet clear, but I’m not taking any chances, and putting the cell phone down while I’m behind the wheel.
What’s your take??

I think its fair if they allow you to talk with hands free devices. Cell phones can be distracting and the government has taken a right stand against it.
This law is bullshit hahahha, you live in Ontario as well never knew = ) live in Mississauga
I actually saw that when I was first reading your blog!! I meant to msg you about that but I’ve been so busy lately!!! Check out my take on how to make the front page of digg.com with my own hilarity added in there for everyones reading pleasure!!
Yeah.. reading on How to Digg… a quality read…
The same in California as of June 08, no more hand helds, fine is $150 I think. I personally think this is just another tactic to get more money via fines, what I often consider to be “legal robbery” I have yet to see any good statistics in California that justify this. And yet we women, are still putting make-up on in the car, legally,
Count me in as one who supports the ban. Thing about driving is that the offender is not the only one put at risk. Having been part of a multi-car pile-up, I know it only takes one screw-up to set off a whole chain reaction of events.
Sorry to hear!! glad you came out ok - definitely a reason for the ban
The weird thing was, I was the fourth car in a four car pile-up. The guy in front of me, car three, started apologizing to me. “Man, I am sorry you had to get involved.” Then he realized what he was saying, then said, “I am sorry I was involved.” Neither or us were involved in the original crash.

That makes sense what you are saying, I guess an accident like that would make me feel the same way.
i mean
people might see this as ridiculous
but its like seat belts
you never know when this law will save you
well..it will be perpetually saving you lol
