Ebay and Grumpy Bidders in a Recession

Recently, I wrote an article about the decline in Ebay sales, which can be partially attributed to the economic slowdown of late. Another factor that the recession has brought upon Ebay, is what I like to call the grumpy bidder. These are the people that want something for nothing, complain about everything, and won’t even bother contacting you before leaving you a poor feedback.

To top this off, 9 time out of 10, they leave poor feedback regarding something that is clearly stated in the listing. They simply don’t read the auction, and then are shocked to see that they got something they didn’t expect. If they had read the auction, it would have been obvious what they would get.

In my case, the problem is people complaining about the fact that assembly is required. Last month I recieved 8 neutrals, which are equal to negatives according to ebay - I know, it doesn’t make sense, but anyways - 8 neutrals about assembly required.

My terms and conditions section states very clearly that assembly is required. It’s not hidden, and it is even in a very important section - terms and conditions!! Do you not read the terms and conditions section of a contract?? I know I do - but some of these people fail to grasp this concept, in turn penalizing me with a neutral. Not only this, but they don’t even bother to contact you before leaving a poor feedback.

Thankfully, some do, and I’m able to explain the situation to them, but each and every poor feedback I have ever received has been because of a person that has NOT contacted me. Not once, in my entire career on ebay, have I tried to resolve issues with a bidder, but have been unable to, which has resulted in a poor feedback.

Not a single time. I just think what my feedback would look like without these malicious and negligent bidders!! But that’s just wishful thinking.

So what am I trying to tell you in this Ebay article series?? When you start selling on Ebay, be prepared for people to do the unthinkable, and don’t be surprised when they do. In a future article, I will explain how to deal with poor feedback, and the options that you have. Happy blogging! :)

Another downfall in Ebay sales can be attributed to the falling popularity of Paypal, which is the most utilized payment processor for Ebay transactions.

The buyers ability to call for chargeback usually makes the buyers hesitant on auctioning their products.

Negative feedback is also a major factor in declining sales.

Totally - ebay has to make a lot of changes before they will be able to restore confidence in the system again unfortunately

Very true - amazon is tearing it up, while ebay is being torn down from inside - I for one hope ebay survives, as I want to sell my ebay business once OnePoke.com and the blog here make me enough money to be able to do so

if not, well hey a lesson learned at the very least right :)

Although reccession has hit us all, I still have confidence that market viable is getting back taking the assumption that every family has an allocated budget for spending something for their needs monthly, all we need to do is do some research what figure budget they will spend, based on that info we can redirect our affiliate or niche market to our blogs, assuming we have multiple blogs to mainstream the required niche

Taris i think its better to write more clearly so that buyers don’t have any room for complains.

God, I remember those days of selling on ebay…sorry for your probs, but that is the name of the eBay game. Too bad that people do not contact prior to leaving neg feedback.

Sellers are being scared away by shrinking profit margins, plummeting sales, and poorly managed policies - as a result the market itself is shrinking :(
