Christmas Tree Chopping 2008

Hey guys!! Today I went out Christmas tree shopping with the family! We go to a local tree farm every year, trudge through the snow, and pick out the perfect tree (usually). I wanted to share some more Christmas cheer, so here are the pics, and I will post a comment to go along with each - enjoy!! Click on any image for a larger version.

Here we are, arriving at the Horton Tree Farm - great trees and great prices!!

pc130147

Here we are starting the long walk up the hill into the tree farm.

pc130149

A few other tree choppers ahead of us as we’re walking up the hill.

pc130150

Here’s my dog Sasha doing a funny dance in the snow - I managed to get her attention for the shot.

pc130153

This is the real out doors people!!

pc130154

Here’s my Dad and Sister posing for a shot with the dog - mom’s there walking ahead of us.

pc130155

Beware its the Sasquatch!!

pc130157

Here’s a nice shot of the sun breaking through the clouds for a bit!

pc130158

Another nice nature shot

pc130159

This tractor takes you back to the entrance if you’re too lazy to drag your tree back yourself.

pc130160

Here’s my sister posing with the Fur Bag again.

pc130161

We’re getting much deeper into the forest now.

pc130164

And here we have candidate number one!!!

pc130165

AND DEEPER WE GO!!! Worried about that sasquatch attacking at any moment.

pc130166

Here’s candidate number TWO - NOW THE CHOICE IS MORE DIFFICULT!!!

pc130167

An “ARTISTIC” shot lol

pc130168

So we decided to go with candidate number ONE - and to our surprise and fortune, the sasquatch kindly helped us cut down the tree we chose.

pc130169

An obligatory cute dog picture

pc130171

Heres a close up of the saw at work

pc130173

My sister with our dog standing alert!!

pc130175

On the way back, I took a couple of panaramic shots - please click on them to see the full sized versions, as these small ones are kinda crappy looking lol

pc130156

pc130174

AND THERE IT IS - our very exciting CHristmas tree chopping experience. I will be sure to post pictures of the pre-and post decorated tree in our home! Until then - happy blogging!!

Or use Amazon. As you have visited my blog, you see I use my own keyword links for Amazon products. Have to do it manually, but anything worth doing… Plus, I have a system now and only takes about 2 minutes per word/product.

Freeze and crush proof, does seem hardy. 10 megs is awesome for such a outdoorsy camera. Tech is always funny because you can reflect when a camera with 1 meg was something.

If it didn’t it would freeze in the snow and would not be able to walk.

LOL, first thing that caught my eye- Category: Ramblings. I love it.

I didn’t know you cut Christmas trees so high up on the trunk. Interesting. Wish I knew that back in the day when we use to go out into the country, jump a fence, and lay down with a saw to cut as close to ground as we could. Now I feel like a hick, could have gotten a bigger tree and cut from arm/eye level. Now I am citified and have a plastic tree from a box.

Usually you would do that, but they let you do this at that tree farm, as after a certain point, the tree is too huge anyway, and most people wouldn’t cut it.

This way, people can still use the lower boughs for decoration around their home as well, so the rest of the tree is still useful

What is in the upper portions of the barn? It is awfully tall, was wondering if it had multiple lofts.

Looking at your pics again, miss having snow and overcast. In Oklahoma we just had sleet over Christmas. Christmas Day it was like 75 degrees, where two days before it was in the teens. Too warm for the season.

Still the present were great this year. Quantity over quality, but that is ok. That’s my preference.

I thought snow is quite irritating. I have heard rants on many blogs about snow really putting them off. Nothing beats cool weather, not too hot, neither extremely cold.

Google Adsense just brought up Oklahoma Tree Farms, didn’t know we had tree farms. Maybe I need to see if I can cut at arm/eye height like the Canadian farm.

Miss the smell of a real Christmas tree. May have to go real next year, even if it is a Charlie Brown tree.

The tractor has front snow tires, which makes since. I have only seen straight line tires on tractor fronts.

Only front snow tires are enough for a tractor due to the way it is constructed. It is a FWD i guess.
