A Gift From My Hard Drive: A New Series
If You Think YOU’VE Got it Bad…
You ain’t heard NOTHING yet!
I found out about a site a while ago. This site is a collection of peoples stories of crappy things that happened to them. They range from disaster dates, to incredible insults, to anything in between. The site is called F My Life, and you can view it at http://www.fmylife.com. They also have an Iphone app, as well as an Iphone friendly site if you’re browsing from your good old Iphone.
The great thing about this site is that it will always put a smile on your face, as there is always at least one hilarious crappy story on the first page.
Another great thing about this site, is that no matter what happens in your life, you know someone out there has it way worse. Not to say that that’s a good thing, but at least you know someone else out there feels your pain.
Here are a few excerpts of the most recents FML’s:
Today, my dog ate my little brothers medication. I spent all morning trying to make him throw it up, but it wasn’t working so I took him to the animal hospital, which was in a different city. $150 in poison control and vet bills later, I found the pill we thought he ate stuck under his paw. FML
Today, I found out my girlfriend is pregnant and then decided to break up with her. Why? We’re lesbians. FML
Today, I worked in the Emergency Room. A patient came in and the diagnosis was “private area caught in zipper”. All of my co workers and I were cracking jokes in regards to what happened. I walked into the room the patient is only to find my dad crying in pain. FML
Today, I was going to the mall and went through Macy’s. I saw a really sexy girl from behind; a blond wearing a tiny skirt and a nice blouse. Feeling like being a punk, I went up to her and said, “How you doing?” and slapped her ass. Everyone saw the mannequin fly into the mirror and shatter it. FML
SO that’s just a taste for you. When you get a chance, check out the site for yourself - anytime I’m bored, you’ll definitely find me on my Iphone surfing Fmylife.com.
I accidentally closed my browser before submitting this post, and had to re-type the whole thing over again. F my life. LOL
Now Only 6 Ad Slots left for the Introductory Offer!
Only 6 more ad slots available at OnePoke.com for the introductory $30 for at least 3 months offer! Here are the details for those that are unable to receive my emails!!
First off, some brief details about the spot itself. The ad slot is a 160×600 skyscraper banner at the right side of every page on the site. There are 10 spots in rotation, with ad impressions being divided equally between these 10 slots. There are no other ads on the page, and we have no plans to put any additional forms of advertising up to distract the users attention from your advertisement.
With regards to the length of the term, as I mentioned before it is for AT LEAST 3 months. The term will officially start when the website hits 21,000 pageviews for the month. We are currently sitting at just under 10,000, with the average daily page views being around 600 and rising over the past week.
Your term, should you sign up immediately, will not start until we hit 21,000 page views. All of the time that your ad spends on our website before that point is simply free bonus time. We currently have one other advertiser that signed up about a month ago under the same offer, and he has been enjoying free traffic from our site as he waits for the 21,000 page view mark to be achieved.
The term would end at the point which our site reaches 90,000 page views for the month which we project will be about 3 months after the term begins. During this term, we guarantee your ad will receive at least 15,600 ad impressions.
You might ask, what happens if that page view mark is reached in say, 2 months, or what happens if that page view mark takes 6 months to be realized? Will I lose out on the term, or on ad impressions?
The answer is absolutely not. If we reach our 90,000 page view mark in 2 months time, and say in the 3rd month we’re up to 180,000, your ad will still be left in the rotation until 3 months have passed from the start of your term.
If it takes us 6 months to reach the 90,000 page view mark, your ad will stay up until the point at which we achieve the 3 month target of 90,000 page views.
As mentioned before, the cost is $30 for 3 months, or $10/month. At 15,600 pageviews, that works out to be $1.92 CPM if we reach our 3 month target in 3 months.
In a scenario where we reach this mark in 2 months time, and see 180,000 page views in the 3rd month (this is our 4th month projection), your ad will have received 29,100 impressions, with a CPM of just $1.03.
In a scenario where we reach this mark in 6 months, your ad would receive an estimated 31,200 impressions, with an even lower CPM of $0.96.
We estimate that our page view goals will be achieved faster than our targets, in line with the 2 month scenario mentioned above.
Any advertisers that sign on with us during this introductory ad term will be given a special preferential rate of $0.80 CPM going forward, in comparison to the $1.00 CPM we will be charging advertisers that sign on at a later time.
To recap, here are the details of the ad:
160×600 skyscraper
10 total ad slots
$30, for at least 3 months as described above
Bonus ad exposure for signing up before the 21,000 page view mark

Welcoming OnePoke.com’s First Official Advertiser!
Just wanted to do a quick welcome to OnePoke’s first official advertiser, Fasblog.com. Although the blog has many sections, they chose to highlight their Adsense section, and it contains many great tips. If you need any tips on Adsense, this is the place to go.
FasBlog.com jumped at the great opportunity for cheap ad space that we’re offering, and so far, the owner is very happy with the results, only a week or so in.
I would also like to remind you all that there are only 8 spots remaining now for the introductory $30 ad contract. This includes at least 3 months worth of ad space, with a 160×600 skyscraper ad on the right side of OnePoke.com.
Please contact me for more information!
Changing Over to the OnePoke Blog
Hey guys!
Just wanted to let you all know that shortly, I will be migrating this blog over to the OnePoke server, and will subsequently be re-naming this the OnePoke blog.
The content will remain the same, and although the blog will receive a template change to better fit with the OnePoke layout, it will be the same great blog you guys have grown to know and love.
My partner will also start posting on here as well, so you will be receiving even more great content than before!
This change will most likely occur sometime during the week. I will leave the current blog up to re-direct any users that might have missed this post.
AMAZING TECHNOLOGY FROM JAPAN
I came across this in an email and I figured I would share it with you guys!!!
Here is the copy of the email:
You will not be able to know what’s ahead of you, until you have seen
at least 4 pictures and read the explanation of what they are, our
future is here ,incredible!! what an age we live in.
Look closely and guess what they could be…
Are they pens with cameras?
Any wild guesses? No clue yet?
Ladies and gentlemen… congratulations!
You’ve just looked into the future… yep that’s right!
You’ve just seen something that will replace your PC in the near future.
Here is how it works:
In the revolution of miniature computers, scientists have made great developments with Bluetooth technology…
This is the forthcoming computer you can carry in your pocket
This ‘pen sort of instrument’ produces both the monitor as well as the keyboard on any flat surface, from where you can carry out functions you would normally do on your desktop computer.
Can anyone say, ‘Good-bye laptops!’
Looks like our computers are out of date… again!!!
Makes you wonder what’s happening that we don’t know about !
USPS Buys $1.2 Million Home To Relocate Employee
So I says to Mable I says, I’m gonna work for the post office so I can finally afford that sweet 1.2 million dollar home I’ve always wanted!
Wait… what?
That’s exactly what I said when I read this article: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/03/05/postal.service.relocation/index.html
So let me get this straight, not only did the guy already OWN a 1.2 million dollar home, but the post office bought it so he could move? BOY am I in the wrong career!!
So I figured, this guy must be some kinda high up executive or something. Makes sense right? Like how else can the guy afford this CASTLE.
NOPE - guys the former postmaster in Lexington, South Carolina. How… the…. BLEEEP!!!
Hopson is now the customer service manager for the USPS branch in Carrollton, Texas. That’s a quote right from the article. So the guy isn’t even a high up.
DOES THE USPS REALLY PAY THAT WELL?? Does anyone know how this is possible?? I certainly don’t understand it in the slightest.
Anyways, for more information, check out the article. Apparently the USPS is lowering their max home buyback value to $1 million. ONLY 1 million now…. Wow.
I would love to hear you guys thoughts on the situation. I’m filling out my application form right now!
OnePoke.com - 200 Members! - GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS!
So OnePoke.com has officially been live beta for just over a month now. Lots of new exciting things have happened in that time, and we just crossed the 200 users mark today - great success!
Some things worth mentioning that have happened lately:
- The OnePoke ToolBox was implemented - explore various tools for your social networks available in the OnePoke ToolBox
- Linked In and Youtube support almost done - should be done this week
- New site design this week - currently only displaying new login page
- 200 users - a big milestone!
So now, I’m asking you guys your thoughts on OnePoke. If you could answer me the following questions, it would be much appreciated:
1) What do you think of the new login page?
2) What do you like about the site?
3) What do you dislike about the site?
4) What do you think we should implement in further development?
As you can see by all the YOUs, OnePoke is all about what our users want, and once we’ve finalized our initial design, any big changes moving forward will take into consideration what YOU the USERS have to say about them.
We will get your opinion for these changes and the options available through polls, which we will display once you log in. OnePoke.com is all about the user experience, and we will make sure that we act according to what the majority of users want.
Also, I would like to give you guys a sneak peak of the new design we’re rolling out for OnePoke later this week. Its a much cleaner and visually appealing design.
Here is the link to preview the beta 2 design.
So if you guys could answer the above 4 questions, and let me know what you think about the Beta 2 design as it compares to the current design, it would be much appreciated!!
Selling on Ebay: Improve Customer Service & Avoid Bad Feedback!
This post is a continuation of the “How to sell on Ebay” series.
Some might say that my title is very obvious. DUHH Taris obviously if you have good customer service you will avoid bad feedback. For those people, I completely agree.
The big question is, how, on Ebay, which is an online establishment, where YOU are the sales, marketing AND customer support guy, how exactly do you improve customer support with such limited means of doing so. Again, we have a fairly simple answer.
Communication.
Although simple in form, the real trick is how to effectively communicate with the buyer. Some might think that this simply involves answering peoples questions in a timely manner, but that is just scratching the surface of communicating on Ebay.
As I mentioned in a previous post, buyers are getting more and more difficult to please as the years go by. Some buyers will even give you a negative if you don’t thank them for paying quickly! Although those problem bidders are few and far between, you might find yourself trying to jump through hoops if you’re not careful.
So how exactly do you EFFECTIVELY communicate with a buyer.
Let’s break this down into three categories: pre-sale, during sale, and post sale. Assuming that responding quickly is a given, I will define responding quickly as within 12-24 hours. If you can answer your emails twice a day, you’re usually good.

OnePoke.com ToolBox Now Up and Running!
So after just a month of beta testing, everything is going well!! We’ve got 140 members signed up, which is great considering we’re not 100% finished everything we need to add yet.
Full launch will likely be at the end of March now, as we want to be sure that we’ve included everything we wanted to from the get go.
While we fine tune, this leads to other creative ideas that we come up with, all of which add to the functionality of OnePoke.com. One of these ideas is what we are calling the OnePoke ToolBox.
I came up with this idea one day when I was fooling around with my Twitter account, and getting particularly frustrated with the fact that I wasn’t easily able to do certain things. Then I went searching for something to allow me to do this, and when I found it, I thought, why not present the user with these tools automatically when they add these accounts!
