Anyone Else Notice a Decrease in Posts??
So as I made my way back to the blog-o-sphere after taking a week off to work on my new venture, I came back to a sad sad sight. I noticed a sharp decrease in the number of posts my fellow bloggers were making daily!!!
I know that not everyone can do the amazing 2 posts per day that I do over here, but still. I wasn’t sure if I should blame it on the holiday season, the poor economy, or even the weather. All that I know is that each time I checked my Google Reader this past week, I seldom found a new post! Another thing was, that with no new posts, I couldn’t make any new commments either!! So much for my back links lol!!
So I was wondering, have any of you guys noticed a decrease in postings from your favourite bloggers?? If so, what do you think the reasons could be?? I had to ask, cause if my Google Reader is broken, I better get on that - don’t wanna miss out on all that new content!!

Maybe because I am online all day (more or less), that I haven’t noticed a drop. At John Chow recently, noticed the past few days that he has had primarily guest posters. My speculation is that it is the holidays.
If it is not, would be interesting to see the why’s. Bloggers giving up because of the economy? Good for the rest of us, but odd that with a bad economy seems that most bloggers would want to push even harder to make money online.
That’s what you’d think anaywas!! I wonder if John himself is on vacation lol
John is always on vacation. Actually he lives life like a vacation.
I see no reason why anyone would stop posting as frequently if they love what they do. John does that. If we love to write about what we write we wont decrease our frequency, now would we?
I noticed alot of sponsored reviews on Johns blog. Infact some readers were showing their frustration.
He actually wound up posting a lot over Christmas. My guess is he had less to do off-blog, so more time to attend to it. During a regular business week he has a lot going on with off-blog business (whatever that is).
No actually he should space out sponsored reviews. This way he would do justice to the advertisers as well.
Well, for me I know that a lot of people haven’t received my updates because i wrote a post with symbols in the title. Feedburner went in to meltdown and loads of people got no updates.
Don’t ask me why, just a weird quirk.
But anyway, the less new posts from others the more you can capitalise on your own blog Taris. Keep posting.
Thanks for the mention earlier as well.
But hey dude, no follow up on my story. You have a new Dog, gotta get in on the act. In a few weeks this story will go viral (hopefully) and links in the story and at the end should be worth a bit of god traffic.
Make a good follow on in the start and you will get some extra hits.
Are you on twitter?
You should check it out. Regular posting and interaction on your niche can drive traffic like you would not believe. Follow me and I will return. It could really help. I am amazed at what a bit of niche topic conversation can achieve. More than that though it is good fun.
Take it easy dude.
Interesting, I never thought of twitter in that sense!!
I didn’t contribute to that story just cause I’ve been a bit swamped lately, but I’ll give er a go later on!!
Feedburner does act up at times. I have noticed sometimes it doesn’t show any data.
Haven’t truly gotten in on the Twitter action. Have two accounts, guess I need to start working ‘em.
Twitter is a very powerful tool, you need to get cracking.
Sorry dude.
Just reads your post about magpie so I guess you know about twitter.
You are right, never spam. People will drop you in an instant. It is all about interaction. It works though. Blogs sent via twitterfeed can get some god traffic and talking with folks is fun and good for traffic.
Should read more of your posts before commenting.
No worries!! Can’t expect everyone to read each post I have
LOL- Get in on the comment contest and you will read every post. The saving grace- they are worth reading!
Thanks
I would hate to disappoint!
Have yet to be disappointed, even when I disagree.
I have not seen a noticeable difference, I have been posting less because I have been really sick all this week, but you are welcome to come over and comment on some of my older posts for your back links, my earlier pages have high PR.
Sorry to hear man!! Hope you feel better soon!!
Thanks, it’s actually woman, lol
Oh crap - my bad!!!!!
Never done a blog carnival, but that would be an interesting twist. Highlight older posts that have higher PR for people to comment on. Rather than general sites, give a specific post. People would still browse if they like the post.
I guess its more to do with people working hard to finish their tasks before the holidays seasons so that they can relax during Christmas. My posting frequency is still the same though
INdeed !! Glad to see you’re still going strong!
Well I am back Taris. Although I havent recovered from the trauma of being hacked… but guess I am back….
I was about to ask!! were you able to recover much?? I like the new setup of the blog tho!!
@ Nikhil
That SUCKS! That is my worst nightmare, have you found any better ways to protect yourself?
There is a plugin which back ups every day and sends it via email.
Come Christmas expect posting levels to drop further. Also since most readers will be out holidaying there is no need to post all that much either
Holidays would be good (if not busy with family and the like) to do back end things. Trackbacks, emails, comments, etc. Even maybe get ahead on scheduling posts. That should have been my Santa request- “Dear Santa, I would like more content. Can you get some elves on that ASAP?”
Content is not the issue but time is. There is ample things to write about. If you sit and think some what then you can write alot. We need time for generating ideas.
you can expect posting to decrease around the holidays
but you can expect it to bounce back up around new years time
when everything goes back to normal
Looking back I see there were some slow downs with posts, but I saw a dramatic rise in comments at different blogs. This blogs posts kept coming.
Still with scheduled posts, their shouldn’t be a drop in posts.
Have any of you noticed a decrease in traffic?
Yes! Starting to pick back up tho - christmas slow down I guess!!
Yup noticed the same. New Years will see a decrese and then it should be fine i guess.
Forget every year about the slow down for Christmas. So many people start Christmas at different times- the 23-24, get the 26th off, etc. New Years people will be off the one day day. New Years Eve a lot of work get done in the day.
Yeah i guess Alexa has anaylsed the situation. If you notice there has been no update in Alexa rank in the past few days. Usually they update every 3 days.
Good point. Even remember a few times the last few days there was nothing in my graphs bar. But thought that was more of a connection error.
I too was wondering is that a issue with my blog, but then noticed it with all other sites too.
