OnePoke.com Public Beta Up and Running!!
A Gift From My Hard Drive: A New Series
A Quick Progress Update: OnePoke.com
Hey all!! A quick post to update you on the progress of that new venture I was telling you about. The website is called OnePoke.com, and as you might be able to tell from our “Coming Soon” image, it involves one of the things that has slowly become a mainstay in many of our lives: Social Networking.
The site, OnePoke.com, is not another social networking site. Let’s get that straight from the get go. The purpose of the site will be to act as a central hub FOR social networking. It will integrate your social networking sites, dating sites, email accounts, blogs, and eventually media such as youtube or flickr, to seamlessly display all of your information in one place.
This will effectively act to increase the efficiency of your social networking experience by a SIGNFICANT margin. Imagine a website that will tell you whats new, who’s trying to get in touch with you, and what you need to do on each of your social networks, with no more than a few clicks of your mouse.
OnePoke.com will be able to do much more than just this, and I will give you guys more information in my next update. We are looking for beta testers, so if you want to be one of the first to use and experience one poke, check out the website at www.onepoke.com, and check back here for updates as to the progress of the site. Our goal is to have it up and running by January 12th, 2009. If you are interested in becoming a beta tester for OnePoke.com, please reply to this post stating that you would like to beta test, and I will get back to you with further details.
For the rest of you, sign up to our mailing list at www.onepoke.com, to receive updates via email as to the progress and new exciting things to come from OnePoke.

Signed up for the newsletter and would be interested in being a beta tester. Like the name OnePoke. Anxious to take a peek, imagine this was a good amount of coding.
Thanks!! We figured the name was pretty catchy and memorable! And it is most DEFINITELY a large amount of coding hehehe
I will let you know when we’re fully functional for beta testing!!
What did you think of the bunny logo?? I thought in combination with the name, it is a combination that can be easily remembered
I liked it. I get the finger to represent a poke, but why a bunny? You have a cuddle factor for sure, but penguins are cute too. Poke a penguin? There you have a Linux tie-in. Poke Tux. Twitter has the bird, but fingering a bird has bad connotations. So maybe not that.
Regardless, I liked it.
HAHAHAHA - I just tried to pick something that would stick out!! Hopefully I’ve achieved it - we’ll see in the long run
If that doesn’t seem to work , try a rainbow breathing panda. Maybe the panda could shoot rainbow waves out of its finger.
Woooooooow this surely sounds fun. I think this will be one of a kind site.
I certainly am excited to get it up and running!! I’m sure my blog here will do wonders to help promote it!
Certainly. Blogging is the best tool to promote anything nowadays.
Looks like with the buzz your getting here, it should be huge first day leap.
That’s the plan anyway!
I love the name Taris, One Poke! This is actually a great idea, as I am often scrambling all over the place with all the different stuff, like social sites and email, 2 blogs etc.. I cannot even imagine having it in one place
Glad to hear - the name was the hardest thing to come up with lol!! I’m very excited to get it off the ground, as it is shaping up to be a fairly popular site from what I can tell!!
Yeah it’s very clever, and also humorous as it has so many meanings
So what does JR Stand for anyways?? I’ve been forgetting to ask - you can email me a response if it is not something that you want in the public domain hehehe
No it’s no big deal. See I was born in the former USSR, and when I came here no one could ever pronounce my name and I was teased horribly all through elementary and high school, so I finally just started using my initials, for my first and maternal given name as they call it in Russia.
So that is the story and for the last 25 years everyone calls me JR! I could tell you what it stands for, but, you will never be able to pronounce it anyways, plus it is hard to write it in English letters.
Thats some cool history right there!!! ALright I’ll just go w/ the JR then
That is definitely the safest route.
Keeping people guessing is good. So a name with many meanings can help draw in multiple people.
You should have a teaser campaign.
Think the initial bump from the referral contest until launch will also help build users for OnePoke.
OnePoke is a very good concept, i am sure people are in search for something like that.
Can you share with us more in detail. Like what hosting are you using for that site?
Hosting is going to be by dedicated server - probably look at a host like sectorlink. I still ahve to call them to figure out what they can do for me in terms of scalability!!
Well i thought so, has to be a dedicated server because thats going to be on a large scale. Why not shift your blog too on the dedicated server. Will help in super fast loading and also start the onepoke blog.
Indeed I might do that - I’ll have to look into the blog situation for the site tho - I think one blog is enough for me
Amen to that, one blog is enough for anybody!
Think I saw where Yaro Starak had ten blogs going at one time. When he had to write the content for them, before being big days.
I read he then sold them for profit.
I actually fear the day a dedicated server would be needed. The extra admin and security would be tough. Like the comfort of shared hosting.
Have they answered the scalability question yet?
Who said dedicated server has complications. I don’t mind the extra security for the peace of mind and speed that a dedicated server has to offer. Infact if i had a budget i would go for one.
yea everything seems to be on track
i like the idea of it
i understand what people are saying about the one blog thing
but solid concept
Thanks!! We’ll see how it turns out
A OnePoke blog could be more corporate, with fewer posts than daily. Just mentioning updates and news. If it takes off as we hope, then a staff member can be tasked with daily posts.
I think thats an interesting idea actually - but we’re goign to focus on making the site user friendly first, as that is the main concern
That makes sense, plus you will have your hands full initially solving little issues as they arise. January 5th beta will hopefully help with initial bugs.
@Taris- one of the questions I have is if you are are currently using it? Are you an Alpha tester? What are your impressions as a user?
It’s actually still in the development phase - my partner is dealing with most of the heavy duty coding.
I myself coded the blog support, the website design, and a promotion function. Aside from that my partner is doing the rest.
I’m in charge of marketing and driving traffic to the site, as well as the other fun administrative stuff lol
Having a partner is important. Yahoo, Google, and Microsoft all started as partnerships.
Why is it important to have a partner. Its because when you become lazy the other person reminds you of the goals and motivates you.
Is there any numerological reason behind the launch being on the 12th?
nope! simply just trying to get it up and running as soon as possible!!
Ok cool, that means Monday (less than two weeks) onepoke should launch.
That’s the target anyways
Cool, eagerly awaiting for the launch.
Interesting Good Luck with the Project hope it goes well, if you need any help of any sort give me a shout =) Sounds like a very neat idea
Thanks will do for sure - I will be asking for help in terms of promoting the site, and in exchange we will be giving advertising on the site to people that help us out in the early stages!!
