Monster trucks? MINI Monster Trucks?? HUH???

In my quest to bring you, my readers, the best and most interesting material on the net, I bring you Mini Monster Trucks. A few days ago I came across this video of what appeared to be something like claymation or something. To be honest I didn’t even know! But I read the article and it said it was something called tilt shift photography, which makes something that is real look like it is in fact a miniature!! Pretty neat!! Check the video out here, and the full article below.

In my constant quest to bring you guys the best and funniest material on the internet, I bring to you a piece I like to call “TOWTRUCKLOL.” Enjoy

What to do if You’re Losing RSS Subscribers

rssFirst off - I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! Hope Santa was good to everyone - now onto the post. :)

Anyone that’s blogging professionally knows that your RSS feed is a fairly good indicator of how popular your site is. For me, and I’m sure most others, it’s a quick and easy way to check out what’s new on your favourite blogs without having to muddle through each blog individually. Once you’ve found the new blog articles, you can simply go directly to them, and comment away on the newest content that they’ve posted.

I read an article on my favourite blogs the other day, John Chow dot com, a list of 10 things to do when you’re losing RSS readers. This article hit home to me, because despite the fact that I have some very loyal readers, my RSS numbers seem to fluctuate daily, and I could never figure it out. I use the feedburner service to track my RSS stats, and I would be very curious to know how does it determine the number of RSS readers you actually have.

To me anyways, it would make sense to determine this figure by the number of times that your RSS feed gets pulled by unique users daily. You’d figure that your subscribers are going to check your blog at least once a day, so that method makes sense to me. If it is in fact, a different method, I’d be very curious to know what that is.

So fluctuations aside, I am going to take a look at the points that John Chow made, and make my own contributions to that almighty quandary as to what to if you’re losing RSS subscribers.

  1. Is it a One Time Drop?
As I previously mentioned, this drop could simply be the way the number of feed subscribers is tabulated. Another possibility that would be that it is a glitch with feedburner. Afterall - they are still computers, and computers can often return glitches!

An Unconventional Christmas Meal

kamdoSo the other day, I was on one of my favourite blogs, and I came across a post regarding the Kam Do Mixed Grill.  As you can see from the picture I’ve posted, its a heaping amount of meat, eggs, vegetables, and more meat that is deep fried.  The total price of this meal is $14.99 CDN.

I know we will all be eating a lot during the Christmas and Holiday season, but just imagine eating all that??  Maybe next year I’ll cook up a batch of Kam Do Mixed Grills and see what type of reaction I get.  A bit less conventional than the usually turkey dinner - thats for sure!!

Anyways folks - thats my last post for Christmas Eve Day!  I hope you all have a great evening and holiday season.  I’ll be back with more tomorrow.  May Santa be good to you!! :)

Merry Christmas to my Readers!! :)

christmas_graphics_08Hey everyone!!! Since today is Christmas Eve Day, I’m going to be taking it easy on the blog posts.  Nothing too heavy or serious - just a couple of short posts.  I wanted to take a second to thank all of my readers for their loyalty, and their quality comments on my blog throughout the month of December!

The commenting contest is coming to a close, and I will be tabulating the results in a few days, so get your posts in while you can.  Next month I will be holding a referrals contest - so there’s more money up for grabs in the new year.

Thanks everyone for your support, and I hope you all have a very merry Christmas, and a happy and safe holiday season!! :)

Blog Mistake Mondays @ AverageGal.com

As any veteran blogger knows, we all make mistakes. One of my fellow bloggers has decided to start a Monday feature that aims to highlight the mistakes we, as bloggers, make in our careers. The aim of the feature to allow people to learn from each others mistakes. As she put it, we hear about the successful bloggers, but not the unsuccessful ones.

Check out her blog and her feature at this link to find out how you can avoid becoming one of the blogs that just ends up dying out!!

Ken Block Subaru WRX STI Gymkhana Video: AMAZING

This post goes out to all of the gear heads on the blog, and heck, even if you’re not a gear head, and someone that just uses your car for transportation, you have got to watch this video. This is a video of rally driver Ken Block, doing a practice run for a Gymkhana event. The video itself defines what a Gymkhana driving event is, so I won’t bother to waste our time by typing it out here, but let me tell you, this is quite possibly one of the most amazing bits of driving I have ever seen. EVER!!! Now sit back, enjoy, and put this video on full screen as Ken Block shows you how it’s done.

Looking at the Big Picture: Making the Best of What you Have

lemonadeAs my regular readers are aware, I am writing an ongoing series on “Looking at the Big Picture,” and how to use concepts extrapolated from that idea to help live a better more fulfilling lifestyle. My next installment is a fairly well known concept, that is often summarized in a simple phrase: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. As cheesy as this saying might be, they are good words to go by, and in the big picture series, this translates into “Making the Best of What you Have.”

I thought of writing about this topic the other day when I was re-evaluating my own financial situation in light of the financial crisis that is upon us. I was pulling my hair out thinking how far I had fallen in terms of income and net worth from even 6 months ago, and how hard I had worked to get to that point, only to have it all taken away from me through no fault of my own. The more I thought about it, the worse I felt, and it didn’t look like it would be turning around any time soon.

Then, I read an article in the Toronto Star one day, which discussed homeless people, and their current situation in light of the financial crisis, and how even shelters and food banks are struggling in these tough times. That really got me thinking.
