Looking at the Big Picture: Nobody Owes you Anything!!

mlyn200lFor my next installment in the “Looking at the Big Picture” Dot Com Personal Development series, I bring to you a short, but sweet article regarding a simple fact that many people forget to take into account. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who you are, or what you did, nobody owes you. Unless, of course, someone ACTUALLY owes you by way of you loaning them money or something, or them saying that they owe you one.

But that goes without saying.

I bring this point up, because I’ve realized that the youth of tomorrow seems to think that they are entitled to certain privileges, or they have a right to do such and such. This mentality is absolutely, and entirely FALSE! What did these people do to make them think they were entitled to anything at all??

When I was young, I was raised with the concept that you had to work hard if you wanted to achieve something in life. Nothing is ever free (unless you participate in one of my contests :)) and nothing is simply handed to you. If anyone can shed some light on the matter of why the youth of today seems to think they can expect something as a right without first having to prove themselves - I would love to hear your input.

Although this idea applies mostly to the younger generations, as I have previously mentioned, there are certainly people from other demographics that still have this same attitude, say a famous person, or a rich person. It kinda relates back to the article I wrote about “Never Forget where you Came From,” but not exactly to the T.

I don’t have much more to say on the topic, and I would love to hear what you all have to say - but this is something that always amazed me, and here is my post about it. :) So remember, give and you shall receive, but never expect to receive, or you will be sadly disappointed, because really, nobody owes you anything.

Messing with a Nigerian Scammer LOL!!!11!!one

I figured I’d share this with you guys since the topic of Nigerian money scams came up on another blog that I’m on. I got this off of a forum way back when - this is not my original material, but I’m sure you will all enjoy it!!

Alright, as many of you may have seen my last thread…

http://forums.offtopic.com/showthread.php?t=3392393

Cliffs on it, some guy tried to get me to send him 500,000 in cash and he’d give me a check.

Anyway, started f#*king with the dude and asked for a picture of him with a watermelon and a sign that looked like this:

How to be a Top Commentator/First to Comment

l_first-place-blue-ribbonSo today I am bringing you guys a topic that has been much requested from me, from not only my readers, but the owners of other blogs. The big question at hand today is HOW exactly do you become a top commentator on your favourite blogs. By top commentator, I mean not only by the numbers, but by the position as well. I’m talking about the coveted 1st comment on the page kind of top commentator!!

Being both the top commentator and first to comment will go light years to increasing both your blog traffic and your reputation in the blogosphere. The reason being simply the sheer number of people that will come across your avatar/comments/content will get your readers, recommendations etc.

In all honesty, when I first started looking for interesting blogs to read, I went straight to the top commentators list on my favourite blogs. So far so good!!

1) First things first - to become a top commentator by numbers will be fairly easy in principle. Comment a lot!! The thing is, that on high traffic blogs, this can be very time consuming. So if you’re short on time, you’ve gotta work on your time management, and MAKE the time - cause comments don’t just happen by themselves!!

2) BE RELEVANT!! That’s right - ADD to the conversation. No one likes the “Sweet” or the “Great” one word comments, and if you’re like me, you’ll delete any of these irrelevant comments. No better way to keep yourself at the top than to ensure your comments don’t get deleted!!!

Blog Income Report: December 2008

income-uid-4Hey guys! As is tradition with many monetized blogs, I bring you my monthly blog income report for December 2008. This is also my very first month “in business” so to speak, so the numbers are quite low!! But hey, what can you do - you can’t expect a miracle now can you??

BTW - sorry about the crazy green haired elf dude to the left here - he’s the best I could find on such short notice lol!!

I started this blog off after reading about John Chow’s insanely insane monthly income reports from his blog - who wouldn’t be inspired by someone doing what they love and making a killing off of it?? So far, I’m absolutely loving writing the blog, and all the different things that I get to talk about - in that sense - I’m half way there!! Now I just have to start making a killing doing it hehehe.

In terms of goals, considering that this is my first income report, I will set them out together with my other goals for 2009 in a post that I will put up later this week. So now, onto the main event! The numbers!

Total Blog Income for December 2008 - $9.85

That’s right folks - not even 10 bucks - but like I said, this is my first month, so I didn’t expect much. I signed up to many networks, and am still trying new things. Still a lot of room to grow and expand - after all I am starting from the bottom. :) Here’s the official breakdown.

  • Affiliate commissions: $0.00
  • Private Ad Sales: $0.00
  • Google Adsense: $9.78
  • Google Adsense for Feeds: $0.07
  • Reviews: $0.00, but I got a copy of a great free Ebook!!

So there’s the breakdown - Next month I am starting to advertise private ad sales on the blog, and there will be a link at the top of the page with the numbers. This will include all the details of the paid reviews etc. Affiliate commissions are something I want to greatly improve in the long run as well. I’m thinking of trying out Shoemoney Tools, but I expect that next month Private Ad Sales will add a good chunk to the tally.

Blog traffic for December was 2,981 page views from 314 unique visitors - I’m pretty happy with that for the first month!!!

The goal for next month?? I want to double that income - THAT’S RIGHT - DOUBLE!! :) Thanks again to all my readers for their support - couldn’t have done it without you all!! :)

Blogging Etiquette: How to Blog Politely

etiquette_smallToday’s blog entry will consist of something that I haven’t yet seen posted anywhere: A how to on blogging etiquette!

Some of you may look at me funny when I say this, but I really think that blogging is similar to interacting in the real world, but with the whole face to face element taken out of the equation. Think of the blog as a persons house, where a blog owner lives, and you occasionally come visit them to hear their stories.

Personally, when someone tells me a story, no matter how good or bad, I’ll always have something to say to them once they’re done. They took the time to talk to me, so I’ll take the time to return the favour - even if its something as simple as giving them feedback or criticism.

I think the same should go for blogging. Often, even the most boring blog post can entice an excellent conversation if everyone adds their two cents. This is not only respectful to the owner, but it can add something to the blog where there was previously nothing to be found.

So with that said: Blogging Etiquette rule number 1 - try to comment as much as possible, regardless of whether or not you know about or are interested in the topic. I subscribe to a broad scope of blogs, but I will always post a comment, unless it is totally off my radar, say, a post about makeup or something. I have absolutely nothing to say about makeup lol.
