$175 Commentating Contest!
Starting today, November 25th, 2008, I will be running monthly contests for the top commentators! The idea behind the contest is to build up a loyal reader base, and to draw people in to read and comment about the interesting topics that I write about in my blog. What better way to do this than to offer you all an incentive to check my blog out!!
The rules are simple: just post good comments, that are relevant, with no comment spam. In exchange, not only will you get a chance to win some much needed cash, but you will receive free exposure in my sidebar for being among the top 10 commentators, but you will be building street credit with me and my other readers. This is a win win situation people!!
I will be running a similar contest each month, and I will be gradually increasing the stakes, and adding to the prizes available! This month, I will be paying $100 to the top commentator, $50 to the second place, and $25 to the third place! This will give you all an incentive to keep on commentating until the bitter end. The contest will end December 30th, as the 31st is New Years Eve, and frankly, I want to get out there and celebrate! Don’t forget that I will be deleting all spam comments - SO NO SPAM. In the mean time, let’s hear what you have to say, and I’ll see you at the finish line!

Nikhil! I’ve re-enabled the plugin - I thought not having it work correctly would upset my readers, but hopefully they can help figure it out
as you can see if you click a “reply to comment” further up it will hide the comment box behind all the comments instead of moving them out of the way as it should!!

Contests do seem to get people to a site and get them interacting. I am no exception, I am in for the game. Will be interested how your stats improve over the next month. This will be a good case study.
Indeed!!! Next month I will be running a referral based contest - to be honest, I think that will have far better results!! But I guess the numbers will truly be the deciding factor on that one!!

What kind of referral contest are you planning?
Basically, the blog that refers the most traffic to my blog in a month wins.
It will involve making a post about my blog, and getting the most traffic to it - something like that
That sounds cool, but tracking won’t be easy.
I thought it would be fairly simple with google analytics - simply see what domains are referring the most traffic, and I would make sure that the average time spent on the site is significant enough to be real traffic, and not just multiple clicks to get a referral count to be higher
Please, just allow us to post which domains are ours, as many of have multiple domains to send traffic. In the interim I will play with some ideas I had and see how they track in Google analytics.
